We’d like to congratulate the Learning Disability Rugby League (LDRL) players that represented their Clubs for Inclusivity Round, at the Millennium Stadium on Bank Holiday Weekend.
Our partners at Featherstone Rovers and Featherstone Community Foundation host weekly training sessions for their LDRL Team, and although previously the team have played at tournaments at various stadiums across the country (including St James’s Park at Magic Weekend), this was their first time playing at home during a festival.
‘It was a very good day. Nice to play at Featherstone Ground and walk around the pitch at half time.’ – Ryan C, LDRL player.
Learning Disability Super League teams in attendance included Featherstone Rovers, Castleford Tigers, Hull KR, Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity. All teams played on the pitch at Millennium Stadium directly before the Featherstone v Keighly game and were part of an on-pitch awards ceremony, proudly sponsored by us at Millennium. Each player received a personal ‘developing potential’ medal, alongside their teams taking home Inclusivity trophies for their work to make sports accessible to all.
‘Sunday was a really great show of high quality LDRL and it is a testament to see how hard these players work to represent their foundations. I would like to thank everyone who took part and made the day extra special for all the players and staff.’ – Will Dobson, Featherstone Community Foundation.
‘It was fantastic to see so many people come out and enjoy playing rugby. LDRL allows so many people access to sport and creates many great friendships. It doesn’t matter which team you support, and it really doesn’t matter if you have never played before, get to a club and get playing.’ – Steve Clough CEO.
